Track 2011

EYAL Plate Final Ipswich 11 September 2011

Our small contingent performed creditably in the windy conditions gaining valuable points for the combined Enfield & Barnet team, particularly Sean White who gamely ran a 1500m after having just raced 400m and Serena Clarke who won an exciting 200m.
It is a shame that Neil Thompson was faced with unexpected last minute drop outs by some boys who would have gained enough points for us to have won the trophy. As it was, we came second to Ipswich by only 19 points as can be seen in from our results at this link.
Footnote; I went as the only Barnet official, travelling on the South Mimms Travel coach which left Lee Valley promptly at 9am. The fare for the athletes was £7.50 per head and for supporters (parents) £12.50 ph. Officials went free. A long day; we got back at about 7pm. Steve Harris

Southern League Match 4 Bedford 30 July 2011

Well done to everyone who competed, we nearly pulled off a great victory over Heathside only to be beaten heavily in the last few events costing us badly. I think in the end we were simply running on too much of a skeleton team. See attached results from the match (numbers in brackets denotes position in race not points) and the overall standings. Scores were slighly different to those shown as there was an ammendment to the results affecting the scores of the other three teams but this didn't affect final positions.
Summary of the match:
Big shout out to Ty for putting together travel arrangements and getting up there early to cover the early events, and Ben Boxer for putting in a big shift across a number of events as the youngest athlete on the day. Also want to congratulate Laurence on his debut in the league - covering a number of events showing his versatility and competitve spirit, particuarly in the 800m.
Obviously there were some great perfomances that stood out including Liam's 400m (narrowly missing the club record again - it will go soon!), Chris B's impressive attack on the 110h and 400h events, and Grant's double of the 5k and 3k/Chase. I suppose Luke's tactically mature 1500m was decent aswell ;)
Hope Steve makes a quick recovery from his hammer induced injury.
Final match 13th August - we need as many athletes as possible for this one!!

Vets League Match 4 Hemel Hempstead 25 July 2011

Ever the optimist I thought we could just edge it, but in the end we lost out by 3 points. How close was that.!!!!
We were short in a few events but pulled together really well, so a huge thanks to you all it was truly an heroic evening as the lead changed a couple of times.
I must thank Mel for filling several of those voids , Ty for stepping up to 2 laps, Des for the long drive from Norfolk and back, Steve Dobson for being there from the first match not knowing what he was letting himself in for. and Hugh for that walk.
And of course Steve for the impromptu coaching of Mel and all of us really, Just to get that little bit extra..
On the night it was nearly but not quite.. Chris and your team thanks for your hard work without you we could not do it.
Through out all the matches it was good to see Barnet competing in all the events both scoring and non scoring
I hope you all enjoyed the matches and had a positive time.
Lets try get one place better next year, holidays and injuries permitting and make that Final.
It’s quite sometime since we enjoyed a magnum or two. Dave   Men Ladies- Team scores

Man of the match has to be Will Morris for his 6 events on his Southern League debut, most of which he hadn't done before plus guest in the 1500.
( good job he took a fall in the 400H otherwise he would have beaten me). Liam Thompson's PBs in the 100m - 11.2 & 400m - 51.0 also very impressive. More PBs for Luke Callis in the 1500 - 4.19.5 and Raj Patel in the 5000 - 17.20.9. Adam & Ben Boxer also made their debuts with promising performances in the Shot & Javelin - Adam and 800m - Ben. Well done to everyone. We are now 11th in the table. Richard

EYAL Bury St Edmonds 12 June 2011

The weather managed to stay relatively dry up to about two thirds of the way through the meeting and possibly had a bearing on the 200m races and some of the throws.
We had a relatively low turn out although spirits remained high throughout the afternoon. I`m not sure of PB`s but I do know that Hannah and Thomas made 3 each, and Olive gained a Long Jump PB. Sean and Elliott may have got one or two and Ellie did well to be throwing whilst nursing a sprained ankle.
I`ve just noticed that the results are now available on Powerof10. Our results are attached here.

Southern Mens League Match 2 Newham 4 June 2011

Despite a weakened team of only 12 athletes we managed to cover most events and scored maximum points in the 800, 1500, 5000, 3000SC and 4x400 but Harlow had a couple of decathletes who won all the field events with the exception of Dan Digweeds triumph in the HJ with an opening jump of 1.55m.
Individual results attached here & team results and table here.
We have moved up to 4th in the table, our highest position ever, but have some tough fixtures ahead. We are up against Watford, Belgrave and Colchester at the next match on the 9th July, so need our top team out.... Richard M

Vets League Match 2 Copthall 23 May 2011

Not a bad nights work, I think we cruised to that one. Big thanks to you all for stepping up to the mark. Can we keep it going. As you will see after two matches we are equal on match points with Enfield but they just edge us by one 204 to 203 on overall scores. Pretty close.

Southern League Match1 Hemel Hempstead 7 May 2011

A good start to the season with a well deserved 2nd place.
Match result :
Milton Keynes 102 Barnet & Dist 93 West Suffolk 84 Loughton 46
We hope Eric makes a speedy recovery after his dramatic hamstring pull in the 100m...Despite the loss of Eric we coped well and dominated the track events, in the field events there is room for improvement, particularly my Hammer !!
Individual results attached...here - We are now 6th in the table as attached here.
Next match June 4th at Newham, we once again have a good chance of winning as we are up against
QPH ( came last in 1st match with 63pts ), London AC ( came last with 10pts ) and Harlow ( came 3rd with 83.5pts ).
The remaining fixtures after Newham are much tougher against the likes of Belgrave, Bedford, Luton, Watford....
Keep Fit... Richard M

9 Steve Allen 1:57:11 (PB)

Surrey, Middlesex and Herts County Champs plus Vets AC Club Champs - 10,000m - Battersea Park - 27th April 2011

Just 4 days short of my 55th birthday I managed to trim just over a minute off my own club 10,000m record on the track at Battersea Park last night, and retain my Herts County senior title. It is generally considered that a fast road course is at least 20-25 seconds faster than the track so my road best of 54:37 will hopefully be substantially revised in the European Masters Champs in Thionville, France on 13th May when I make my M55 debut.
2 Steve Allen 54:22.9 (M50) (PB and CR) (1st Herts senior) 25 started, 21 finished

I went with Annalisa to the event at Parliament Hill not really knowing what to expect but was very impressed. It was free to enter and attracted a large number of children of all abilities, shapes and sizes. They all got a certificate for taking part and there were special prizes for those who had improved the most since the last meeting. Highgate Harriers (the host club) even put on an Easter egg hunt for them whilst we were waiting for the results.
Annalisa really enjoyed it and would like to do the next one. She was, the only Barnet and District participant. It would be good to see some other young Barnet members at future events and Annalisa would, I am sure, enjoy the company. Rob Mack
