Southern Ladies League
The ladies track and field season starts this month! Saturday 24th April is the first meeting and its in Thurrock (Blackshots Lane, GRAYS).
All ladies in the club and under 17 girls are welcome onto the team - any running event and field events are available at this stage. If the event you want to do is already full then there is the option usually of doing it as a non scorer. Please contact me with events you would like to do so I can put together the team.
Here are the events and the likely timetable:
100 (1.10pm), 200 (3.05pm), 400 (1.40pm), 800 (12.50pm), 1500(3.20pm), 3000m (2.10pm) 400m hurdles (1.40), 100m hurdles (2.50)
shot (2.10), hammer (12.00), discus (1.10), javelin (3.10)
High Jump (1.30), Long Jump (12.30), triple jump (2.00), pole vault (12.00)
The league is friendly and very broad in its standards, so really everyone is welcome from people who are trying track or field for the first time to those who are more experienced. We team up with Highgate so as to fill the team.
Here is a link to the track: http://www.runtrackdir.com/details.asp?track=grays
The next matches:
Saturday 22nd May - Bracknell
Saturday 26th June - Norwich
Saturday 7th August - Parliament Hill
Saturday 4th September - Exeter
If you want to get some practice or try and event beforehand the club track and field open morning is on Saturday 17th April. This is a good opportunity to try something new or do a time trail. It starts at 10am. A range of coaches will be there to take people through events and to introduce people to new events. If you want to come, simply turn up around 10am.
Please contact me via email or phone, or see me if you'd like to run/jump/throw - I am normally at the track on a Tuesday, club on Thursday or at Trent Park on a Saturday.

Statons Sponsored Midweek League
This year the league has a new sponsor & we are very grateful for support given by Nick Staton of Statons Estate Agents. Also there are a few changes with the presentations, Vet athletes will only be eligible for one award & there will be only be 3 Men’s open awards instead of 5.
We now have provisional details of some of this summer’s 10km (or there about) road race league fixtures. This year we are down in Division 2 after finishing 5th last season in a close fought battle. There is every chance we will get promoted back to Division 1 this season if we can achieve good turnouts at all the meetings. With 12 to score for the senior men and 6 to score for the senior ladies, strength in depth is the key and we would encourage runners of all standards to compete in this friendly and sociable league.
We will distribute fuller details for each race via email and the website as each race approaches. 2nd claim runners will be allowed to compete again, providing that their first claim club is not competing in the league & as SBH has now dropped out a few more of our 2nd claim athletes will be eligible to run. Refreshments will be provided after the races, most clubs will do this free of charge, but some clubs may ask for a small donation towards costs. Minimum age for runners is 15.

Just a reminder to all club members that this year both the ladies' and mens' teams will be targeting the Chingford League as their priority for the Winter. The Chingford League will consist of two 5km races over the Hainault Olympic Cycle track, a 5m road race in Victoria Park Hackney, an end of season relay in Highams Park and three cross country races one of which is in Trent Park. This is a friendly league suitable for all standards of runners similar to the Midweek Road League in the Summer.
