London Inter Club Challenge and Quad Kids Events

These meetings are held through-out the summer at Parliament Hill and Copthall, with an additional LICC meeting at Woodford. The LICC meetings are effectively Open meetings open to all standards U13 upwards held in the afternoons usually after a Quad Kids event. TImetables and more details at www.londonathletics.org/licc.
Quad Kids is a real fun way to get introduced to 'Athletics' in the broad sense with young athletes U11, encouraged to have a go at a short sprint, a 600m run, a jump and throw. Further details are here and here

Statons Midweek Road League

We now have details of this summer’s 10km (or there about) road race league fixtures.
After the club’s good performances over the Winter season we hope that the momentum will continue & we will do well over the roads this Summer. We finished 4th team in the 1st division last year & there is every chance we can stay in Division 1 again this season, however we need to achieve good turnouts at all the meetings to maintain & hopefully improve our finishing position. This is a friendly and sociable league and we would encourage runners of all standards to compete, the more runners we turn out the better our chances.
We will distribute fuller details for each race via email and the club website (details will also be on the events page at www.runherts.com) as each race approaches. 2nd claim runners will be allowed to compete again, providing that their first claim club is not competing in the league. The other clubs in Div 1 we will be competing with are St Albans, Garden City, Trent Park, North Herts & Royston (Div 2 Fairlands Valley, Harlow, Orion, Bishop Stortford, Herts Phoenix, Broxbourne & two new clubs Hitchin Runners & Edmonton RC)
Refreshments will be provided after most of the races, however at some races this might be limited to tea & biscuits as some of the smaller clubs as struggling to provide the banquets that many have become accustomed to. Some clubs may ask for a small donation towards costs of refreshments, Info will be given on individual race details.
Minimum age for runners is 15. Age categories are as at the date of the 1st race.

Chingford League Winter

Message to all Senior Athletes (Male & Female) from John Owen owen@9shortgate.freeserve.co.uk
Running round athletics tracks in the summer can indeed be not uninteresting. The left hand curves provide a pleasing contrast to the home straight and to the back straight. Sometimes the tartan track is a slightly lighter shade of colour and sometimes a slightly darker shade.
But now the winter season is here – a different race every week, cross country and road, relays and championships. John Clarke and I, working together, will be men’s winter team managers; Heather Dawson and Philippa Horton and will be women’s team managers. So we have a “team management team” and we’ll be supporting you all the way through till March.
We want to win the Chingford league this season. We’ve done it before, a number of times. In 2002 we achieved a clean sweep, winning men’s ‘A’, ‘B’ and Veteran’s competitions and winning the women’s competition too. We need to hit the first race and indeed all the races with all the force that we can muster.
Let’s blitz them with a blast of Barnetonian blue and red.
Look forward to seeing you there.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME. EVERYONE IS NEEDED EVERYONE IS VALUED

Metropolitan League Winter

There are 5 Metropolitan League cross country fixtures held in various locations between October and February. Everyone that completes their respective race, no matter what position they finish, scores for their club. These points are calculated after each fixture. After the final fixture the league results are totaled up and the winners are crowned.

This is a fantastic league to compete in being that it is a pure cross country league over some fantastic courses. Different from the Chingford League, men and women race separately giving a different experience and a chance to peg yourself purely against your own sex. The distances are somewhat shorter than the Chingford League, especially for the senior women who get the luxury of covering just 6km.

Like the Chingford League, you don't need to pre-enter since your team manager does this for you at the start of the season. You can just turn up on the day and collect a race number however, it is helpful for the team managers to know who to expect so if you can let them know that would be appreciated. If you need a lift to the race please contact your team manager who might be able to help.

As the winter weather sets in you will need to wear appropriate footwear. As with all cross country races, trail shoes can be worn but once the ground gets muddy cross country spikes should be considered (please ask your team manager or coach for more advice)
